Ron White Says Tell a Story to Build Your Memory Power

Telling a Story to Build Your Memory Power

By Ron White Memory Expert and USA Memory Champion

In the levels of memory training, association includes elements of memory training, such as acronyms. Have you heard of acronyms? An acronym is a series of scholarship created using the first letter of each word. IBM is an acronym for International Business Machines. AT&T is an acronym for American Telephone and Telegraph. These are used by companies thanks to they are easier to nail down. When I was in high brief, my science teacher told me that I could learn the colors of the delusion in the correct establishment by remembering the name Roy G Biv.

R for red, O for orange, y for tricky, G for sprouting, B for glum, I for indigo, and V for violet. In addition acronym I learned in improve mind was an easy way to get the Great Lakes. It is called homes. H. O. M. E. S. H for Huron, O for Ontario, M for Michigan, E for Erie and S for Superior. That is an easy way to learn the Great Lakes.

Can acronyms be used for gadget? No. Are there more advanced ways to retain information? Of course. However, every level of memory training is important, and you never know when a good senescent fashioned acronym is what you need to use to recall some vital information.

A link is a method of recalling information by telling a story. Many ancient books, such as the Bible, were passed down from one genesis to the next this way. I risk you can chant many of your favorite tunes on the radio and not miss a beat. The motive is that you have, unit one, incorporated the link method of memorizing by linking one concluding to the next, songs also incorporate rhythm which helps your memory. A link is wittily linking one deliberation to the next. For example, here is a record of 19 items. If I ask you to memorize them using basic association, it would not work. For ideal, numeral one is Mount Rainier, figure 2 is ice, symbol 3 is trees, character 4 is bicycle. What do these items have in common with the cipher they are with? Duck egg that I am aware of. So, in this position, basic association would not work.

The next level is the chain of association or the link. Sit back, relax and love this story. I want you to headquarters on seeing the images in this story very plainly, vividly and incredibly. Here is the story:

Mount Rainier has ice on the top and trees on the side. Coming down the pile is a bicycle ridden by a German ringleader. He has a glass of water in one hand and a shoe in the other. At the bottom of the height, he crashes into a TV set and scepter on a pillow. He bounces off the pillow onto a trampoline, and bounces off the trampoline into an airplane. The airplane rule in Dallas and Richard Nixon is waiting for him. He has on a brown beret, black boots; he hands him a check for $50, 000 and the keys to a brand new Corvette. He then drives the Corvette back to Mount Rainier.

Now, we’ re going to do this one more time. The difference is I want you to repeat the items out full-mouthed. By the way, if you maneuver your hands and use body language, you’ ll have hardy the pictures in your mind. So, here we go. Sit back and read this story. Mount Rainier has ice on the top and trees on the side. Repeat with me. Mount Rainier has ice on the top and trees on the side. Coming down the pile is a bicycle ridden by a German Counsellor. Repeat with me, coming down the eminence is a bicycle ridden by a German Luminary. He has a glass of water in one hand and a shoe in the other. Repeat with me, he has a glass of water in one hand and a shoe in the other. At the bottom of the elevation, he crashes into a TV set. Repeat with me, at the bottom of the height, he crashes into a TV set. He county on a pillow, bounces on a trampoline, and bounces off the trampoline into an airplane.

Repeat with me, he nation on a pillow, bounces on a trampoline, and bounces off the trampoline into an airplane. The airplane territory in Dallas and Richard Nixon is waiting for him. Repeat with me, the airplane monarchy in Dallas and Richard Nixon is waiting for him. He has on a brown boater and black boots. Repeat with me, he has a brown bowler and black boots. He hands him a check for $50, 000 and the keys to a brand new Corvette. Insist on with me, he hands him a acquiesce for $50, 000 and the keys to a brand new Corvette. He then drives the Corvette back to Cause Rainier. Make emphatic with me, he then drives the Corvette back to Give impulse Rainier. Did you use body language with it? I always do. I clasp out my hands like I’ m revenue a glass of water and a shoe. I knock like I’ m on the trampoline and I complete like I’ m Richard Nixon, and I endow out my hands like they have keys and $50, 000 in them.

Let’ s do this one more time. Here we go. Seat on the story:

Go ahead Rainier has ice on the top and trees on the side. Accentuate with me. Actualize Rainier has ice on the top and trees on the side. Entrance down the elevation is a bicycle ridden by a German Head. Play up with me. Nearing down the mountain is a bicycle ridden by a German Boss. He has a glass of water in one assistance and a shoe in the other. Rub in with me, he has a glass of water in one relief and a shoe in the other. At the zot of the pile, he crashes into a TV set. Accentuate with me, at the nobody of the height, he crashes into a TV set. He possessions on a pillow, bounces to a trampoline, and bounces off the trampoline into an airplane. Bear down with me, he dynasty on a pillow, bounces to a trampoline, and then bounces off the trampoline into an airplane. The airplane principality in Dallas and Richard Nixon is waiting for him. Repeat with me, the airplane crown in Dallas and Richard Nixon is waiting for him. He has a brown hat and black boots. Repeat with me, he has a brown bowler and black boots. He hands him a check for $50, 000 and the keys to a brand new Corvette. Repeat with me, he hands him a check for $50, 000 and the keys to a brand new Corvette. He then drives the Corvette back to Mount Rainier. Repeat with me, he then drives the Corvette back to Mount Rainier.

Now it is time to spot how many that you recalled. Now, on a sheet of paper inscribe down all the items in this catalogue. Don’ t chalk out the story, instead, smartly commit each noun in the story. For copy, Mount Rainer will be the first item on the guide.

Set the book aside now and knock out down the items there are 16 items. Do not spend more than 4 - 5 minutes on this exercise. After you done come back and check your answers. Answers below:

1. Mount Rainier

2. Bicycle

3. German Pacesetter

4. Glass of water

5. Shoe

6. TV set

7. Pillow

8. Trampoline

9. Airplane

10. Dallas

11. Richard Nixon

12. Brown beret

13. Black boots

14. check for $50, 000

15. Keys to a brand new Corvette

16. Mount Rainier

Well, how did you do? Did the link method work for you? I wager you did elegant well. Our minds are totally the greatest computers ever created, and I penurious that. Don’ t get prejudiced up in being perfect right now. This is a very basic memory method but adequate to memorize lists longitude it is not important to know what #6 is without having to think about it. I must confess I don’ t use this method by itself very much. However, I do couple this method with the journey method or loci method ofttimes to store more than one piece of information on each file.

Beating Cancer with Qigong: A Success Story

In 1991 I was diagnosed with Stage Four lymphoma cancer and habituated six months to live. I was 32, and my sons were aged two and six months. I was a writer at Aetna Life & Casualty, Inc, and my wife and I had just built a shapely house on a tarn in eastern Connecticut. I had shape to live for. I had plans. Ruination was not a part of them.

So I decided to fight for my life. I read and researched subject I could about people who, against all odds, had survived terminal illnesses. The common yarn was using the mind to influence the body to heal - - specifically, the arts of meditation and visualization. I learned these techniques, and for the next six months, meditated and visualized while I notorious chemotherapy. Amazingly, in half a date The cancer was gone. The doctors couldn ' t fathom it.

I intuition I was cured. I became a freelance writer for several divisions of Aetna, and was building a successful business. Then a point following the cancer reappeared. Thanks to of the raging of the particular lymphoma cell, the doctors recommended a stem cell transplant ( allied to a bone nucleus transplant ), in which white cells are havested from the blood, high - dose chemotherapy is administered to destroy the bone centre and all the cancer cells in the body, then the harvested white cells are dripped into the body to refashion the immune system.

I knew I had to go spare into mediation to withstand the onslaught of this much more powerful chemo, so I did some research and discovered that the Chinese had been utilizing the mind / body connection for thousands of age. They called these internal energy exercies " qigong " which means energy work. Qigong is based on the same theory as acupunture: you have invisible channels and meridians of energy in the body. If these channels become blocked, malady ensues. Qigong practice allows a person to keep these channels unlocked to allow good health.

I found a local tai chi chuan / qigong teacher who taught me several moving sets of Qigong ( Qigong includes moving, sitting, standing and lying down exercises. There are literally thousands of qigong exercises. ) I practiced these sets, and got out of the stem cell transplant room in enter time. Despite the potency of the high - dose chemo, I didnt get very sick at all.

Again, I deducing I was cured. But a clock later the cancer relapsed. My oncologists recommended larger stem cell transplant. They gave me a 10 percent chance of survival. This transplant would be several times more potent than the first. It would last for six months. Every other month would carry a four - day hospital stay in which high - dose chemo was administered to destroy cancer cells and bring the immune system to halfway ground zero. Then the forbearing recognized growth hormone to bring back the immune system. The process culminated in the actual transplant. Then the most powerful, lethal poison was dripped into you to cream the bone core. Then you were without an immune system, and a common cold could dispatch you.

I knew I had to go and into qigong to help me survive this second transplant. I decided to contact Dr. Yang Jwing - Ming of Boston, world - celebrated kung fu, tai chi chuan and qigong master. I knew of Dr. Yang from my martial arts days. Perhaps it was synchronicity, but a boon companion handed me a advert announcing a qigong seminar in a nearby hole taught by Ramel Rones, Dr. Yang ' s top believer and a master in his own right.

Rami had won gold medals for forms and tumult in North America, Europe and even China.

I approached Rami after the seminar and surrendered my sombre: " You ' re a payment medal winner and at the top of the kung fu world. Do you want to take on a bigger challenge, and help me beat cancer? " To my incredulity, he agreed. It turns out he was a little worn-down with winning long green medals.

Rami tailored a qigong program for me designed to unlatched my energy arrangement and improve the health of my internal organs. These exercises included snug - ups and sets from White Crane and Tiger Claw qigong. The most important thing he pleasant me, however, was an exercise designed to groceries energy in my body. It is called Embracing the Tree: You say so with feet shoulder - broadness solitary, knees bowed a few inches, sacrum tucked, point level, with your arms tied in a wide arc in unfolding of your chest, palms facing the heart. Then you nerve center on your breathing, and just notion. Energy pours into the top of your nib from the atmosphere, and into the soles of your feet from the sphere. Then this energy is stored in your dan tien, or field of elixir, which is located in the body ' s nerve center unbefitting the navel.

Rami haggard the importance of yield the posture for long periods, both to clear blockages and build energy. He recommended I build up to an fling, which advanced practitioners and masters accomplish. At first, I could only do five minutes. But I massed thirty seconds every day, and in several months could stand for an hour.

Standing for an hour a day, with cancer in my bones and chemotherapy in my veins, gave me a great sense of accomplishment. It unyielding my will and gave me the courage to endure the six - month long transplant process. I defintely was quite sick at times during this procedure, and had to practice sitting and lying down qigong exercises. But I stood whenever I could. And I walked out of the transplant room cancer - free.

I stopped Embracing the Tree. I wanted to take some time off to lick my wounds. The cancer had highly suffering my shoulders, peck, and hips. Besides, after all that chemotherapy, naturally I was cured.

But I wasn ' t. Six months sequential the cancer relapsed in my spine. It was eating into my disks and vertebrae. My legs would give out on me, and I ' d collapse to the earth like an accordion. I could barely urinate. This was the most frightening relapse of all.

My oncolosist was at a loss. I ' d had every type of chemo available, and still the cancer came back. It ' s survival of theh fittest; cancer cells that aren ' t destroyed are resistant to chemo. Out of frustration, she gave me one treatment of the chemo I ' d orinally had. And I started Embracing the Tree with a nemesis. Sometimes I ' d do it from a seated position when my legs were shaky. But I did it, and the pain went away. I had an MRI and a gallium scrutinize, and no relate of the cancer existed.

That was twelve age ago. I ' ve been cancer - free ever since. My career is gone, my house is gone, my wife is gone. But my sons have grown into men, and I ' m alive to regard them succeed. I Nuzzle the Tree every day.
